how did I beat depression

28 years of chronic mild depression with maybe in earlier days worse than mild depression.

How did I beat it?

Well one probably never 'beats' it but certainly I have a formula that is working well at the age of 58.

I finally recognise that I need to do some sort of exercise each day.

They bang on about dopamine these days. It used to be serotonin.

Me thinks exercise gives me that dopamine that makes me happy.

Admittedly I do exercise a lot.

So I either run a good distance for an hour of so or on a working day I will garden as a professional and this is strenuous and physical

I have quit caffeine pretty much and I rarely have alcohol.

So it's about finding that winning formula and trying to build the regimen to stick to it. If you don't stick to it you'll suffer. Of course easier said than done. It took me 28 years!

P.S. do not do a job you don't enjoy. try to orchestrate over time into a job that you enjoy. easier said than done but well worth trying to get there. not always easy to know what you will enjoy though. Took me a good 10 years before I enjoyed gardening but I hadn't given up alcohol or caffeine and I hadn't recognised that I need to exercise each day
